A Simple Post-Workout Recovery Routine (No Gym Required)

The work doesn't end when the workout does. A few minutes of recovery afterward can make the next day feel a lot better. Here's a simple at-home routine that takes about ten minutes and needs very little.

1. Roll out the big muscles (3–4 min)

Start with a foam roller on the larger muscle groups — calves, quads, and upper back. Move slowly, pausing on tender spots and breathing through them. This isn't a race.

2. Target the knots (2–3 min)

For the tight, specific spots a roller can't reach, a cork massage ball against a wall works well — shoulders, glutes, and along the spine. A roller stick is great for calves and quads if you'd rather sit.

3. Stretch it out (3–4 min)

Finish with a few gentle stretches. A stretching strap helps you ease into hamstring and shoulder stretches without straining.

Make it a habit

Keep your tools where you'll see them — next to the couch beats tucked in a closet. Ten quiet minutes a few times a week does more than one long session you dread.
